In the last 15 years, have any major world events changed the origin of Canadian immigrants?

World Events
Jherek asked:

And how so?
Thanks for the two moronic answers instead of providing something helpful.

Canadian immigrants = people who have immigrated TO Canada. DUUUUR. But thanks for being smartasses and making yourselves look like jackasses instead. :)
Basically, I want to know WHAT world events have SIGNIFICANTLY changed the origins of immigrants in Canada and HOW. Jesus Christ.

Not a single event. All Canadian immigrants originate from Canada at some point in their life.

    Was this a trick question?

I’m originally from Canada (now living in the US) and it’s been a long time since I was in a Canadian History class. I don’t think anything has really changed immigration patterns in Canada. I’m sure since 9-11 like in the US, immigration has gotten more strict (as I’ve heard rumors that the terrorists were trained in Canada).

During the world wars there were significant changes in immigration patterns but now there hasn’t really been enough to make me think there has been a big change. 9-11 was the only thing I could think of since 1992. But maybe that’s because I’m in the States now (and the war is all they talk about).

An easier way to look at it would be to ask where are the largest number of immigrants to Canada (in the pasts 15 years) coming from? Then you could find out what happened there. Drought? Famine? Civil War? Relaxed border and emigration controls?
