What world events can you recall from your childhood?
October 15th, 2008 | by admin |Chow Doctor asked:
My first is Reagan’s attempted assasination, I remember my first grade class collected Jelly Beans for him.
I also remember
The Berlin Wall coming down
The Challenger exploding
The Detroit Tigers winning the ‘84 World Series
Northwest flight 255 crashing in Detroit (Romulus), leaving 1 sole survivor
Baby Jessica
My curiousity stems from a discussion that my DH and I had recently; “how old were you when _____ happened”?, and it got me to wondering what other people remember from their childhood.

I can tell exactly where I was when 9/11 happened. Exactly what I was thinking and what I was being told. I was 11 at the time. I think many people feel the same way about 9/11 though. Truly changed, not just the US, but the entire “white” world. (Meaning mainly here in Canada, but Europe too.)

I remember the Challenger Disaster, Michael Jackson catching on fire, The Berlin Wall being torn down, the political imbalance that remained of the Cold War, Pee-Wee Herman with his pop-corn kernel head masturbating in a movie theater, and Uh, Desert Storm…

I remember watching a sublime video called wrong way on mtv when I was nine years old, and scrolling across the bottom was news that Princess Diana died. I told my mom and she didn’t believe me.

I was in elementary school when the Iran hostage crisis happened during Carter’s presidency. I remember seeing so many bumper stickers that were very ugly about Iranians.
Also I remember how no one believed Elvis really died and there were sighting of him in various news mediums. lol! People finally gave up on that.

National — The death of Franklin Roosevelt, and the Truman vs. Dewey presidential election.
World — The end of WW II.
Otherwise it was all personal and family stuff.
Why do you ask?
