    During the afternoon on April 24 1917, it was clear that the English had succeeded in rejecting the first German mechanized assault of World War 1.

    World events in April 1917 were primarily focused on World War 1:
    The US declares war on Germany, Canadian troops win the Battle of Vimy Ridge in France (heavily defended by German troops for it’s strategic location), Brazil withdraws support from Germany, France launched the Nevelle offensive against the German position, the Soviet Union was concern with German troops advancing. The British fought the battle of Arras against the heavily fortified line held by German Sixth and Second Armies and made one of the largest gains since the start of the trench warfare.
