The assassination of Julius Caesar.
The Roman sacking of Carthage. The Roman defeat of Carthage in the Second Punic War.
Octavian (Augustus) defeating Mark Antony in Egypt.
The fall of Rome in 476 AD.

Theodosius II making Christianity the official state religion in 394 AD.

I dont think there would really have been “world” news more like empire news. Reports of victories or losses around the empire.
